A Unifying Roar
A novel about opportunity, sacrifice, and what still unites us
DGDean’s powerful debut joins the tradition of unforgettable sports underdog stories — where impossible odds, broken people, and one final opportunity collide on the world stage.
Sometimes the roar that unites us starts with the unlikeliest team on earth.
America is exhausted. Outrage sells. Then a 38–19 handball loss to Egypt goes viral, and for one moment the country laughs together.
Peacock sees an opportunity: open tryouts, live-streamed, turned into a documentary in time for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
What no one expects is that real men will show up — fathers, dreamers, former athletes — each carrying burdens heavier than their unfamiliarity with the sport.
As the cameras roll, rivalries form, families are tested, and one little boy’s Type 1 diabetes diagnosis forces a father to choose between his dream and his son.
What starts as content becomes something undeniable: a team forged in sweat, sacrifice, and quiet courage.
Behind the story, the writing, and what comes next.

About the Author
DGDean spent the bulk of his career building and running a boutique tech outsourcing firm that specialized in high value start-ups.
His debut novel, A Unifying Roar, grew from a fascination with underdog journeys and the ways people find common ground when least expected.
He lives in Sandy Hook, Connecticut with his partner Alison. He is the proud father of two children.
When he’s not writing, he enjoys learning new skills, mountain biking (carefully), golfing (poorly), softball (slowly), and reflecting on the stories that connect us all.
